Bob, and all, my replies are interspersed within the quotes:

the website is hosted on a shared hosting server from hostgator.com. It
is a Linux system, running Redhat Linux. I don't have root access to the
server at the level where Mailman can be updated. Hostgator offers the
Mailman listserv as a user service, and they take care of the updates.
All I can do is log into the control panel and change the settings to
suit our needs.

I certainly didn't mean to police the choice of email providers, just
wanted to suggest a solution to the problem. The fix/update request is
answered in my first paragraph.

Hostgator doesn't offer alternatives as a service, although there are
user-installable packages available for email listservs. I have looked
at them in the past, and didn't see any reason to move away from
Mailman. Why fix something that isn't broken? I'm not sure where the
connection lies between Mailman and outgoing emails getting trapped in
personal spam folders.

Bob, I'd be glad to have your help managing crw-talk or you can at least
have a look at the Mailman control panel.  I'll email you the login info
for that. Maybe you can find that connection.
