It is  GREENISH YELLOW IN COLOR AND very HARD.

 

I am thinking of using it in an accent ring in a bowl.

Also known as Osage Orange. I doubt you'll find any in Wisconsin. Illinois and Iowa have some.

What, pray tell, are hedge apple trees?  They must have some nice wood if you are wanting some.  John
