Hello CRW friends, not everything I turn is an unqualified success.
A week or so ago I found this piece of mulberry in my wood stash because I was going to be the next Lyle Jamison! Or so I thought. Well, the piece turned out nicely as I first cut the outside shape then hollowed it with my homemade Jamison system then used a couple of other hollowing tools I got from club members, Ken Grunke and Jim Frank to get the inside nice and smooth. Then I refined the outside surface, cut a tenon for later mounting and parted it off from the faceplate. Lastly I put a few coats of oil finish on the outside and inside to slow the drying and set it aside. Well, the photos tell the story! Should’ve nuked it I guess. Or left it thicker. Or soaked in DNA.
So now it is well ventilated, or should I say, air conditioned. Just like the old joke about the guy who told his buddy that his hot rod car had 4-60 air conditioning, open all four windows and drive 60 miles per hour!
John
