Besides turning, I do have a couple other interests.  One is raising
shiitake mushrooms.  

To do this I need freshly cut tree limbs, I can use anything from 2-8" in
diameter.  I trim the length to about 42", although mushrooms are not
particular about the length of the host logs, I need to keep them similar in
length for ease of handling.

Now the tricky part.  The wood I used must be hardwood, oak is preferred,
but I have used just about everything except the super soft hardwoods like
box elder and black walnut, not a good idea.  The wood must be live when cut
and it must be cut in the winter.

So, if any of you are taking trees down this winter, I would be very happy
to come along with my chain saw and help cart off the scrap you  don't use
for turning, namely the limbs.  

Please keep me in mind starting in December.  I will be traveling during
much of the rest of November.  I remembered to send this when John sent out
a dues notice and I realized I will not be at the November meeting.

PS  If you have never tried a shiitake mushroom, pick some up at a grocery
store.  You can grill them, use them any  way you would use regular
mushrooms, difference, these have a wonderful delicate flavor.  The reason I
raise my own is that they run $12++ per pound when you can find them.
