Beautiful work.</div><div> </div><div>It took me a while to figure out the cut too, I ended up using a Forstner bit to bore the hole and some free hand drawing of the slot then cutting it out with a saber saw, both while the piece is mounted on the lathe and the spindle locked. Some chipping is almost inevitable. The American Woodturner magazine had an article about yarn bowls several years ago but I have not re-read it. Just faked it. I have not made one in bowl orientation, I have made them with a log in spindle orientation then hollow out end grain with a hook tool. Using a hook tool is about the most fulfilling kind of turning there is if you like big streams of chips flying. I sell them, at craft shows and on Etsy, customers snap them up. I made a segmented one but it did not turn out well.</div><div><br></div><div>Next step is to make her a turned wooden crochet hook. A fun spindle project, the tricky part is getting the hook cut into the end. I use a hacksaw and just sort of hand hold it, then whittle and sand a bit.
