VERY crack prone as it dries and brittle. Fine grain with </font>distinctive light colored sapwood and a honey colored hardwood. Not at all like chucking up a piece of dry cherry and getting a good outcome even with poor technique and half dull tools, not a forgiving wood. But you can end up with very nice pens, small vases and rustic things as well highly polished items. Take forks, cut into vase blanks with the fork on, have the fork toward the bottom and make a vase emerging out of the bark on the fork which you carefully cut so it will sit nicely then mount with a screw chuck.</div><div><br></div><div>Very worth your while to turn a few spindle things. With wet wood, turn and nuke to prevent cracking. Cracked dry wood, go to the bandsaw and make smallish blanks and watch for the reddish/pinkish color here and there.</div><div><br></div><div>If you want I will send you some photos of my lilac pieces. I even made a small bowl out of a three point crotch, turned it side grain just like a big grown up bowl.
