<br>Terry, welcome to woodturning. A relatively famous woodwork, David Ellsworth is a proponent of "letting them rust" or even actively making them rust. His rationale is that this creates needed friction to prevent tailstocks and such from slipping on the ways. That is, a little friction is a good thing.
