The lathe was on a roll....and to help out the shareholders of Excel Energy, ah continued using energy from the grid!Beginins of a WS, got too late to complete for wwd.Repurposed a spindle, was going to be an hatchet handle found hidden in the shop. Hence the parallel offset handle, needed more length- therefore mortice & tenon join for added maple timber. Then some design changes, strange as they may be. Not too late to change the "fat bead" toward the top.Thick piece of butternut to give bottom weight, bout 6" dia x 21/2"+ thick, I harvested 10yr+ ago from a large downed butternut tree. Donated plank of maple from John Clough for top.To this point friction fit only- easily deconstructed. Though incomplete, don't recommend butternut; too light & soft for long term durability. Helmsman interior/exterior spar polyurethane, then buffing to hardened surface once cured may help.TBC for next club meeting & donation to Cancer Center. -raaschBob R at charter
