Tis a good read. John, your wig stand, duly counted. Nice pics sent of the lovely lady receiver and stand. She is lucky to have one made with love from a fine craft person as in John Griffiths.. Our total count now stands at 196 from inception in December 2022. Maybe this month we will break 200?! I need to step up to do my part. Perhaps the August club challenge of making a W Stand will help. Members, please note, they don't have to be fancy, unless ya want to "strut your stuff" I read with keen interest, the AV stuff. I would think the camera Rich noted would do, albeit, we're stuck with cables, no biggy. I think 2 would be needed- 1 overhead as mentioned by John, but also another one pegged to the live center, pointed down the barrel to the head stock. Either hang em high, we have the DJ truss system, or use boom type device as listed by Rich. If boom tripod(s), putem on wheels. Much simpler to move around, not so herky jerky on the screen during the move. Thank you Rich for doing the research and submitting the info for the newsletter. Those who have attended live AAW symposia as some of us have, will have seen booms used; very effective but often 2 individuals needed as those booms are more complicated with camera, iPad, and controller. Our needs are more spartan. Plus we will need a digital controller, maybe a laptop or stand alone., I dunno. If software driven controller and placed on a computer/laptop; we may be able in the future put short meeting clips on YouTube as some clubs do?! Just a pipedream thought. As ya'll may recall, Pam put a motion forth last month which passed overwhelmingly to purchase 1 camera. The club must now go forth, as the majority voted Aye, I was the loan dissenter, but only because of a nebulous funding source. Now, the interesting part. John mentioned a family gift from the heirs of our wonderful member, since passed, Ansel Heram, turner extraordinaire. All is true of what John stated about Ansel. I first met Ansel in 1974 at Western Tech College, as me a new hire, Ansel a seasoned and respected faculty member. He or at his direction had students make a utility project for our program, which we used daily for many years. Funny what memories are jogged from 50 yrs ago. John mentioned the family gift of dough. I don't doubt John's accuracy of the gift, after all, he was a very capable club treasurer for many years. However, this is news to me, and myself on the board for several years, don't recall a line item of gift funds received or reserved for such use. In my several years on the board, we had annual brainstorming discussions and developed our club budget in open board meetings. This process served the club very well. Big ticket guest turners such as Alan Lacer, Jimy Clewes, and Cindy Drozda, all 3 which included workshops were costly. Much thought and discussion surrounded those opportunities, room and board, travel, materials, and food for not only the Sat demo, but also workshop required planning. I won't go on, but know, these things don't just happen; it takes a team! Some board members and I have asked for a budget for some time now, maybe way over a year plus which would have verified such gift monies as well as other line items dollars, such as program (guest demonstrators) budget line, refreshments line, insurance line, etc. Members, please know, the Traveling Turners a subunit of the CRW under the fine leadership of Pam Day has been largely self-funded. The Traveling Tuners success has been noted; think the 4H Clover turning with kids at Bangor Elementary School, Feb 2024, and the upcoming LaX County Fair demo next week. I'm sure Pam would like to see a few more of us showing up, if nothing else to cheer the turners on and maybe talk to folk's bout turning, and help garner some new club members? What da ya say folks? Back to the budget, as of now, none has been produced. Albeit, we know with some certainty, the coffers have bout $3K. I'm asking once again, in this open forum for the accounting of such budget lines, including the gift monies total from the Heram family. Augmenting the Heram family donation with treasury monies can certainly get us started, with 1 camera as Pam's motion defined. Had I been aware of such gift monies at last month's meeting I would have voted Aye also. Board, it's time to come forth with a full disclosure of an itemized budget. The board will likely have a meeting with week, please add to your Agenda. Am hoping the board will comply with this small request. I had a memory of Ansel's family donating back about the time he passed but I certainly do not recall the amount.? If we would need to, the treasurer could go through the records to determine what was donated; but I do not see the need for it.? (It took place after my terms as treasurer.)? As I said before, in my opinion, we have enough cash on hand to safely spend $500-$700 for an AV upgrade. But I also agree with Jay (if I recall correctly) that we would also be wise to do some fundraising such as selling wood to replenish the treasury.
