Bob,

Good start there.  Almost every successful project starts with a plan 
and your plan is clearly marked.

Whew, mine was completed this AM, final sanding and hand polishing is in 
the book, packed and ready for the meeting.  I am here to say that pine 
has a nice color and texture, and a few small knots plus a dab of CA and 
some wood filler add to the beauty of the pieces.  (Full disclosure, I 
cheated, I used a 6' long 2x4 so I got two things with only two 1 1/2 by 
1 1/2 by about 6" left which would make two cool pen blanks if you like 
really chubby not-so-Slimline pens.  The 2x4 began it's life as a 
concrete form when our driveway was poured maybe 25 years ago.)
