Those who did not attend missed a wonderful meeting.? John Fisher ran it with aplomb.? We had two TV sets running.? Duane ran the video and we again had some wonderful up close and personal shots of the turning process.? We began with the Instant Gallery which was full of wonderful items.? Bob Raasch was loaded down with seven more wig stands to distribute thanks to Denis and Lavonne.? We did the Instant gallery on camera for a great view of each piece.? Aaron and Bob Raasch spoke of the need for folks to step up to run for office, nominations and then voting will be soon. The demo was inspiring, it had me planning my next hollowing adventure.? And I learned valuable information on the use of negative rake scrapers to smooth the inside of the vessels as well as ways to finish them with color. Thanks to those who worked into the night Friday evening to get the video and sound set up, connected and running.? Your work is greatly appreciated.? Thanks to Pam for the new(ish) video cart which is sturdy as can be and should outlast even our youngest member! See all of you next month, and again thanks to everyone who contributed to the meeting's success. As U may know, I'm not shy fat speaking my mind in my twilight times. But, ya be blessed I don't play my Great Highland War Pipes(bagpipes) at a club meeting, t'would be lots of squealing hearing aids! I am told the club has bout 50+ members, that's a good thing, some rebound since COVID. I know several long-standing members who will probably not be attending future meetings due to a variety of reasons and probably not rejoining. At Saturday's meeting 8-19, about 20+ attended, again not bad considering its summer and many are wrapping up their summer leisure activities; fishin, campin, having breakfast with their gang/buds, and just plain relaxin. I want to express my heartfelt thanks to Pam, Duane and John F for stepping up and setting up the club's AV system, bringing down and setting up the big Powermatic; a feat to be sure that lasted well into the late Friday evening. 3 of 50 showed up! Kudos to those turning club heroes. To be sure, in my view, the AV setup was stellar, good camera angles, great image display on the large screen TV's, the audience could easily hear the presenter and good room setup. Duane running the AV did a marvelous job of changing cameras selected based on the content being presented to show the images. We all benefitted from Duane's efforts. Lyndal's presentation was executed well and provided answers to all that was asked. His works are beautiful! I did not attend the whole presentation (arrived late), but learned a lot during my brief time of attendance. I'm ashamed I did not join the Friday evening setup party and wish express my apologies to P, D, and J for not joining. It was good and responsible however, that many members stayed after the presentation/meeting to clean up and take equipment back to the storage cage. It takes all of us to chip in when possible to have a good meeting. 7 wig stands were collected. Thank you to all who made them. For any club or organization to be successful, it takes interest, friendly, collegial and cooperative work to share the load when possible. Based on my observation, this turning club has been struggling since the move to Luther post COVID to get back on track. Remember the good ol' days. I believe much of that ol' club spirit can return if we believe we are in this together. Aaron mentioned Saturday morning that elections will be coming soon for 2024, please consider running for an office- ALL are up for grabs annually. If not an office, there are several ancillary positions that are just as important. I personally know there is lots of organizational talent out there in addition to your wonderful turning skills. Talk to your turning friends, lobby, etc. , 2024 may well be a pivotal year. As a former board member B/4 Covid, I'd be happy to mentor a new board member. Enjoy the rest of the week, feels like the tropics out there! Thank you, -raasch -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
