And the holder will allow you to hollow inside a vessel, even just under the shoulder of a hollow form, by pivoting it in the holder. You may also vary the distance the sharpened edge protrudes by relocating it in the holder, but if you leave it longish, you cannot slip itinto a smallish holeso easily. If you are the kind of turner that prides themselves on hollowing through a tiny opening.John Jordan is a master with those type of tools, and?he can get a nice finish inside with them. John Griffiths, not so much. So I try to use a cutter with a larger radius, for a finishing cut, if not the whole process.About 15-16 months ago we had Lyle Jamison do a Zoom demo on line and he uses a Hunter tool which actually cuts rather then scrapes and gets a very nice surface.? But I suspect he could get a good cut with a dull garden hoe. Not me.Sent from my Galaxy Tab? Subject: Re: [crw-talk] Hollowing tool My take on the topic of those cutters is they are essentially miniature scrapers so you use them like a scraper - cutting at center. If you are the kind of turner that prides themselves on hollowing through a tiny opening.John Jordan is a master with those type of tools, and he can get a nice finish inside with them. John Griffiths, not so much. So I try to use a cutter with a larger radius, for a finishing cut, if not the whole process. About 15-16 months ago we had Lyle Jamison do a Zoom demo on line and he uses a Hunter tool which actually cuts rather then scrapes and gets a very nice surface. But I suspect he could get a good cut with a dull garden hoe. Not me. Sent from my Galaxy Tab? (Kind'a makes ya wonder, eh?) We may be able to get into Norskedalen's Old Fashioned Christmas on Saturday, December 3, 2022. In the past we have done Events at Norskedalen outside or in a building with open sides during the summer and fall seasons. These involved demonstrating with one or two lathes, chatting with people stopping by the booth and selling pieces members put up for sale. And ever so often we would recruit a member. Sales made at these events include both items made by members attending the event and items from other members not in attendance. Ever so often someone will watch us make something then buy it when it is complete. The club keeps 25% of the selling price, the maker gets 75%. Records of sales are kept and the treasurer sends out checks minus the club's 25% share. We have not done any of these events since 2019 due to the nasty old pandemic. Please reply if you would be interested in participating. Not asking for carved-in-stone commitments yet but the board wants to get an idea of we should pursue this. Thanks and please let us know if interested. John -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
