Sorry, I can’t help with the welding. 
 
But I can opine that this may have occurred because of excessive blade tension. There have been numerous uninformed and misleading articles in woodworking magazines, including Fine Woodworking, that have endorsed this overtensioning practice. Those articles are WRONG! 
For perspective, read any of the books or articles by Mark Duginske. He even spoke about it during a CRW demonstration more than a couple years ago. He is an expert on saws, both band and table.

I am wondering if anybody in the group has the capabilities of welding aluminum. The bracket that holds the top wheel on my bandsaw has developed a crack, and my welder will not weld aluminum.
 
Please let me know if you can help with this.
