We need to set a schedule for the open shop night. For those new to us, in exchange for sponsoring us as a club at Luther, we agreed to host an open shop night once a month at the wood shop and teach turning techniques. In discussions with Dan L. at Luther we agreed Wednesdays are the better choice to avoid conflicts with sports practices and other events. We have to host one night a month, but we can have more if the instructor wants it. If a subject would take 2,3 or more days. We can schedule them. For example I am doing inside out turning, which will take 2 days to complete minimum. There will need at least one volunteer, more are appreciated. If you dont feel comfortable teaching a subject, at least come by and assist with the safety aspect, evaluating techniques and offering insights. We all know there is more than one way to turn various projects and materials. Tentative schedule based on current volunteers Sept 14 4 pm -7 pm Beginning woodturning Duane Hill Oct 12 4 pm - 7 pm Spindle Turning John Griffiths Nov 9 4 pm - 7 pm Inside out turning Jim Bloomer Dec 14 4 pm - 7 pm Pen Turning Jay Johnson Jan 11 4 pm - 7 pm Boxes Andrew Pingree Feb 8 4 pm - 7 pm Open Mar 8 4 pm - 7 pm Open Apr 12 4 pm - 7 pm Open May 10 4 pm - 7 pm Open Dates may have to shift due to conflicts with other school events. Class size is at the discretion of the instructor and available equipment. -If you need more days, let us know what days would work in addition to the base date. -If you need materials, let us know so we can work with Luther to see if they can acquire or have an inexpensive source. We will discuss further details at the meeting. In Service -- James A. Bloomer -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Message-ID: I am reminded of many conversations? over the years I've had with Jim Frank about the importance of introducing woodturning to new people - youth to mature folks, as I read this article in the latest edition of Woodturning by? "Guest editor letter" by Jay Heryet. Jim had a vision; he would be proud of what his local club is about to embark on by partnering with Onal Luther to further this creative craft of possibilities. A couple of excerpts from the post. "The world is such a different place since I began turning in 1995, with many schools, naked of lathes and an ever-shrinking curriculum of practical subjects; not only do we have to encourage, we to? introduce the next generation to turning. Turners have been doing this." Finally, " We may teach the next generation of aspects of woodturning - they will teach us so much more about the future..." The 1 page article is so much more. Of course, reflective comments are always welcomed by our club community of creative & generous folks. Thx for reading. JBWeld isn't really made to go into cracks, it's not thin enough. If the pieces were completely seperated, JBWeld would work for gluing them back together if there wasn't a lot of stress on them. I used it to glue a piece onto an old vice and it held for a few years, then gave up. If the JBWeld on your part failed, you would have to clean it off before "real" welding.
