Members, one of the many important things for Saturday's meeting is to
drop off any wig stands you have made. Bob Raasch will deliver to
Gundersen and Virginia Green will deliver to Winona Health.
I stopped at Denis Falch's yesterday, and let me tell you, he is putting
his sit-down Oneway through it's paces with wig stands. We all know he
is a master turner and even though he has health concerns that prevent
him attending meetings, he is turning. He had nine completed ones for
Gundersen which I picked up, some are hardwood and some construction
grade 2x6 pine lumber ones (trust me, they are as attractive as walnut,
cherry or maple) which he turned and his brother Doug finished. Doug
applied a wonderful finish to the stands. Three more were awaiting
finish and part of another one was mounted on the lathe.
So bring your stands in Saturday, Kevin or Aaron will get them
photographed, they will be in the instant gallery and then Bob and
Virginia will deliver them.
I have some two-by lumber laying around so by George, I'm going to put
it to use for next month.
See you Saturday, either in person on on Zoom.
Oh, one more time, here is how you do Zoom: a desktop or laptop is best.
Phones and tablets work fine but the screens are pretty darn small.
Laptops usually have a built in camera/microphone, I had to buy one at
Target for my desktop and it plugs into any USB port on the computer.
Best Buy and Walmart should have them too.
Download Zoom.com on your computer or device at some time before the
meeting, will not take too long, just click on the blue link.
James already sent out a meeting invitation in an email, so a few
minutes before 9AM on Saturday just click on the long line of blue print
in the middle of the email. Your machine is smart enough to just read
that and go to Zoom that now lives inside you computer, it will ask you
a couple of times if you want to open it or something like that, click
on the box that says you do, and give it a few moments to open. If you
get there early, just sip your coffee until James gets the meeting
opened. It will happen, might take a few minutes though.
You may have to click something down on the lower right corner of your
screen to turn on the camera and microphone.
That's all there is. We try during the meeting to keep the speaker or
demonstrator in camera view so viewers at home can watch the speaker and
the lathe, listen and ask questions. And when you think of it, thank
James for the use of his cellphone data plan, the meetings are a pretty
high use of cellphone data.
By the way, if the move to Luther is approved, the school has high speed
internet and wi fi which we will be able to use for free; so we expect
to be able to produce better remote meetings for those who cannot attend
in person
So, again, see you in person or remotely Saturday.
