Just wanted to let everyone know that one of our members, Steve Stevenson is in declining health. Just talked to Carol, she wanted his friends to know but it is not a good time for phone calls. Hopefully everyone will keep Steve and his family in their thoughts and prayers. Steve always said the CRW was the best club he ever belonged to.

That is beautiful.

Did you glue on the lower rings then turn the lower part before gluing 
on and turning the upper rings?  Seems like it would be hard to get a 
really nice shape and finish on the inside of the lower part if you 
tried to deep hollow the whole thing after it was all glued up.

Thanks, John. I did exactly that. A few rings from the bottom at a time, turned then sanded and on to the next two. It?s interesting because I?m use to establishing the form on solid stock before hollowing. With segmenting, it?s the opposite doing a few rings at a time but I?m getting the hang of it.

Opps, shoulda' looked at my email yesterday, sorry.

For everyone's information, Duane Hill will be demonstrating platter 
making at the September meeting.   And rest assured the demo will be 
more then just making a piece of wood round and more or less flat, Duane 
always covers both the technical and design elements and could probably 
be persuaded to address the sanding and finishing aspects of such a 
piece and it's intended use.

I am looking for some folks to volunteer for demos in the first part of 
2022.  If you have even a tiny bit of interest in doing a demo, please 
let me know.  Don't make me track you down and conscript you.

As for display - it?s a great opportunity to enhance our community presence and exposure. I have pieces to display, big and small, if that?s acceptable.

John, a couple of questions for you on this coming Saturday's demo. Is the meeting going to be inside or outside?  What lathe do you want me to use?  For platters, I would prefer the Powermatic, but could also use the Jet.  Just let me know.
 
Also, I have a friend wo works for Holmen library.  She says they have a glassed in display casethat is available in January and February.  Any interest?

Opps, shoulda' looked at my email yesterday, sorry.
 
For everyone's information, Duane Hill will be demonstrating platter making at the September meeting.   And rest assured the demo will be more then just making a piece of wood round and more or less flat, Duane always covers both the technical and design elements and could probably be persuaded to address the sanding and finishing aspects of such a piece and it's intended use. 
 
I am looking for some folks to volunteer for demos in the first part of 2022.  If you have even a tiny bit of interest in doing a demo, please let me know.  Don't make me track you down and conscript you.

Hello friends of the lathe.  I have been inspired to build a couple of table lamps and have even rounded up some cherry firewood for them, lamp kits, the whole shebang.  But you need to drill a hole through and through and for that I need a lamp auger.

If someone has one I could borrow bring it to the club meeting.

Duane, it just takes bit more effort to dig the Powermatic out of the 
back of the cage, I guess, but using it for the demo will be superior to 
the smaller machines in my opinion.

We used to do Friday night setup but I never made the trip down to help, 
kind of a long round trip for me.  If the building is not in use by some 
other group Friday night and the keeper of the key can open up, we could 
set up Friday.  We don't want to reserve the building for Friday night 
because if we do, we get charged rent.  But if the building is not 
otherwise in use, we have been allowed to set up Friday nights.

We will certainly need some volunteers either then or Saturday morning 
to get the cameras, lathe, TVs and everything else going so members, 
please try to arrive nice and early Saturday to help out.

And a display, wonderful.  Lets talk about it at the meeting and 
commission a member to run it if we decide to.

Good Afternoon, this will be a decent length  email, apologies.

Once again thanks for the attendance at the physical meeting. It was good
to see you all.
As I had mentioned we have been able to revive the demo with Luther High
School that had been put on hold due to Covid. Quick recap we did a general
demonstration of turning skills for all of the woodworking students at
Luther and were going to do a hands on pen turning class with the more
advanced students at a later date.
I emailed the instructor and was asked for some dates to work with for
having another general skills demo followed by the hands on. In addition I
will see if we can also involve the Art department to illustrate the
creative aspect of our craft.

Here are the dates I am looking at for demo dates. We had at least 6
demonstrators last time, would like that or a couple more if possible.

General demo
17-18 Nov
23-24 Nov

Hands on
Dec 8-9
Dec 15-16

Timeline (both general and hands on)
1130 Arrive and offload equipment
12-1 Set up
1-3 Safety brief/intro/Demo

The club has the 3 MIDI lathes to bring. The Jet on a stand, the sit down
Jet and the smaller counter top Jet. If you as a demonstrator have a lathe
you can bring that would be great. Or, if you can donate a lathe for a
demonstrator to use that would also be excellent. We would arrange to meet
for transport to and from.
What the demonstrator turns is up to them. We have about 1.5 hours so
something you could completely finish or have ready to apply the finish
stage. Last Demo I did a small lidded box, we had branch mushrooms, small
birdhouse, pens, etc. Please bring the blanks and tools you need.
Also any artistic pieces that can be donated to display for the students,
show them the different ways this medium can be worked and embellished.

Please respond back with any dates that work if you can demo, or any other
assets you could loan for use during the Demo.

Jim, all four dates for the demos work for me. I am planning on being
there. I have a Delta midi on a stand that I will bring. I figure I
would demonstrate simple bowls.
