Well members, the October meeting is sneaking up on us. Saturday
October 16 is the big day.
We are honored to have Mark Palma demonstrate for us. He has done a
number of enjoyable demos for us over the years. This time he will be
sharing his wisdom on the care and feeding of carbide tools, both the
scraping ones and cutting ones. He published an article for AAW a few
months ago about his study of the different brands and types and did a
lot of turning with them to ferret out the strengths and weaknesses of
each. So he will have a ton of information to share, and will be
showing the fine points of them on a lathe.
The jury is still out regarding Friday night setup. James will be
posting about that. Regardless, we will need members to help set up
Saturday morning so if you can, please show up at 8 AM to help. It is
much appreciated. If you can't make the meeting, James will be
streaming it and will be sending out the link. Remember to personally
thank James for the use of his cell phone data plan for the streaming,
streaming a meeting uses up a ton of data that he pays for. That will
be the case until the Community Center has Wi Fi.
Adrian mentioned to me that we had decided way back in the prehistoric,
non-pandemic days we had decided to move the November meeting to the
Second Saturday because of deer season. That has completely slipped my
mind so this is something to discuss in the business meeting Saturday as
well.
Several members have kindly volunteered to do Demos in 2022. I have to
sit down to go through my notes and put together a list for the
membership and that is on my to-do list. And feel free to offer a demo.
We also need to begin paying our 2022 dues, $36 for single members under
the age of 80, $25 for students and 80 or over, $50 for
couples/families. Lets keep Jay hopping so be sure to give him your
dues.
We need to think about officers for next year. If you would like to
hold office, we would love to have you.
Lastly, bring your work in for instant gallery. That is always a great
part of our meetings.
John
