Members, Good Sunday afternoon to you.
A reminder of our upcoming meeting about two weeks from now, Saturday
March 20, usual time and on Zoom. Our professional demonstrator will be
Lyle Jamieson and he will virtually demonstrate how he creates a hollow
form. He is a master at hollowing and this entire demo will be
detailed and oriented toward our club. He will take questions during
the demo, as if he were in a live meeting and we were right there two or
three rows away from the lathe. So we won't be able to watch it on a
big screen from the front of the room, but it will be the next best
thing. It will last about two hours and we will have the briefest of
business meetings before. President Bloomer will moderate the questions
and pass them along to him. It will be broadcast from his shop; and he
has the equipment and know how to make it a good experience. And if the
workpiece comes flying out of his lathe, it won't hit one of us sitting
in the line of fire in front of the lathe.
Coulee Region Woodturners is paying for this demo and it is free and
open to all members. He did ask that we not invite other clubs to tune
in. Reasonable enough I believe.
Keep an eye on your email. He will send a meeting invitation to one of
our officers which will in turn be distributed to the CRW mailing list.
Keep an eye open for it's arrival, (and don't accidentally delete it,
like I am prone to doing).
Still not comfortable with Zoom? Or just in need of some woodturning
socialization? On Wednesday March 10 at 7:00 PM we will have a social
hour consisting of talk about woodturning, showing off your work, more
woodturning talk and maybe even some mindless chatter. James will send
out an invitation so try tuning in and getting used to the Zoom system
so you will be up and ready for the Jamieson demo nine days later. Full
disclosure here, I found Zoom a bit daunting in the beginning but after
some meetings and family gatherings, it got pretty easy.
New to Zoom? Just download Zoom.us on your computer ahead of time and
have your computer save it. A few minutes before the meeting begins
click on the line of blue type on the invitation, give your computer or
other device time to think about it, and you will have to give you
system permission a couple of times by clicking on boxes that come up on
the screen. Bye and bye the event will show up on your screen. Make
sure you turn on the microphone and camera so others can hear you
wonderful voice and see your smiling countenance. Still have questions,
shoot them to me and I'll answer them or get someone who knows what they
are doing to help you out.
John
