I?m sure not everyone can make it, so here?s an example. This is locust, 8 inches across, finished with Antique OIL Finish, and buffed. I will bring the scaler, Rich is providing his compressor, and anyone is welcomed to try it out. It is one of the easiest and safest tools to use. Also, you are welcomed to come to my shop, no masks required, to use mine on any piece you have. Have a great day! Hope to see you at the meeting. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... First is our in-person meeting coming up June 19, 2021. As previously mentioned, it will be held at the outdoor shelter north of the parking lot at the Community Center. There is a paved path leading to the shelter, but the last ten feet or so will be off the path to the shelter, I don't know but it may be difficult to navigate a wheel chair, if that is an issue. It will be outdoors and we will be distancing as needed. There are restrooms at the shelter. If you are fully vaccinated you won't need a mask. The library will be open for checkouts and returns when the actual meeting is not underway. The cart will remain in the Community Center and anyone wishing to use it should go inside the Center where our Librarians will be holding court. We ask only about three people use the library at any time and that distancing be practiced. Please check for any materials you may have borrowed before the pandemic and return them. The tool lending system will operate the same way and Duane Hill is our Tool Czar. We ask that members arrive about 8AM to help with the set up. We will need to get one of the lathes to the shelter, coffee pot(s) and stuff liked that as well. Likewise after the meeting we have to return the equipment, too. Our demo will be a hands-on followup on our Mike Peace Demo from May. As you may recall, he discussed texturing and embellishmnet. The club owns one of the tools he demonstratred and Duane Hill will demonstrate that and other similar tools. If you have other texturing and embellishing tools bring them. The demo is hands-on so the plan is for a piece of wood to be mounted, some passes with the tools will be made then the embellishment will be turned off and another will be applied, giving opportunities for everyone to take a shot at it. Bring safety equipment so you can safely turn. Bob Patros will bring a Needle Scaler too. And remember, the club owned Sorby texturing system is available for loan after ther meeting. Now for a never before tried twist to our meeting: We will live stream it over Zoom. Yup, from out in the middle of nowhere, James will live stream the meeing with two or possibly three cameras. He will send the invitation over Zoom just like our remote meetings so if you cannot attend in person you may watch from where ever you have a computer or wi-fi connection and particpate as well. Sign in on Zoom a bit before the meeting as we have during the past few months. If you need tips on how to do that contact me. I assume the Zoom stream will be recorded for viewing within a couple of weeks after the meeting. I suspect James will require a volunteer or two to help with the cameras, so be ready to be conscripted. What to bring? Bring a lawn chair. Bring safety equipment if you want a turn on the lathe. Bring a tool or three to do some texturing if you have them. Bring your pieces for the Instant Gallery. If you have toos or equipment to sell or wood to sell or give away, remenber, this is going to be a real meeting. Lastly, bring youself. It's going to be a dandy! Topic two: The April 2022 meeting will be held the SECOND SATURDAY, due to a conflict with Good Friday/Easter Sunday and we will have Alan Lacer in person for an all day event. We will charge admission for the day long demo and lunch will be provided. The board just got it set up this week, the topics he will teach have yet to be decided, but you can bet there will be some time spent using our favorite tool, the skew, fondly known to some as a "can opener". (Actually, I happen to like skews since I have evolved in reverse order, going from bowl making to enjoying spindles.) We have not contracted for hands-on at this time as we do not know how we would arrange enough lathes. So, plan on next Saturday and we'll have a good time, whether in person or via Zoom. The club spent little money in 2020, so a voluntary donation of $15.00 for 2021 may be made if you choose.? Those of you who attended Zoom club meetings will recall this being discussed.??So looking forward to the in person meeting, John -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... If all CRW members were also AAW members, then contact could be made through the AAW search feature.....yep, I'm encouraging all to join the AAW, a wonderful organization and one stop shopping indeed. On the other hand, some turning club websites may have a "members only" area, probably an area where general public is not invited and PW protected. Could this be a place to post a list (of course with permission club membership)? A friendly recommendation to the board to explore the possibility, and if desirable, connect with webmaster Ken. Maybe this topic will be addressed in the Survey Monkey survey coming out.
