Greetings Members,

We have several virtual club meetings and demos coming up, using Zoom.
All will be at the usual third Saturday 9 AM meeting time but in the
comfort of your own home. Now I have done a few Zoom events and no,
they are not like an in person event but they are pretty darn good. My
family even did a Christmas gift opening via Zoom and it was nice.

Anyway, this old dog had to learn a few new tricks to make Zoom work
but, by George, he did. And I'm pretty sure that if I can do it, you
folks can too. Heck, some of you remember when I joined the club not
knowing doodley squat about turning, I learned a few things here and
there and now can make some cool things. Trust me, you can do the same
with Zoom.

We have a past and now reenlisted member, Aaron Gesicki demonstrating
for our regular January meeting. This will be a full fledged meeting
with a business meeting, socialization, instant gallery and the demo.
He will be Zooming into our computers and there are some instructions
for Zoom attached.

The attachment, Zoom for Newbies, comes to us courtesy of Lyle Jamieson.
(As previously mentioned, he will be demonstrating at our meeting in
March for a 2.5 hour meeting.) Please open the attachment, perhaps
print it or save it to your computer. Study it and remember, you got to
follow computer instructions carefully and do the steps in the proper
order or nothing happens. Not like making a pumpkin pie where you throw
in more or less the right amount of nutmeg and it will still taste good,
got to be exact here.

Wondering if you can make it work? If you have questions, I think the
board would be agreeable to putting together an educational Zoom meeting
where we would schedule a meeting and take live phone calls from you if
you need a bit of coaching to get it to run. And that would be the
purpose of the meeting, getting it to run so you can participate in the
actual meeting

I fear I am getting way too complicated here, but you will be getting an
email with a Zoom Invitation on it before each meeting. A few minutes
before the meeting you click on the line of blue print and that will be
your ticket to the party. Click through the choices the computer
offers, say yes to "Do you want to open this file" kind of questions.
Your computer will have to think about it but bye and bye, it will open.
Just be sure to have practiced jumping through the hoops ahead of time
and have Zoom downloaded on the device you will be using.

I will be sending out more stuff about meetings and Zoom as the meeting
time approaches, stay tuned, and shoot me any questions you have.

John
