[crw-talk] Saturday Meeting

John & Donna Griffiths griff at mwt.net
Tue Feb 16 10:42:56 CST 2021

Hello Friends,

Most likely you have seen James' note about the meeting coming up on the
20th. We'll be on Zoom, of course. And as he said, he'll send out an
invitation with a blue line of code you click on to "git 'er done",
(apologies to Larry the Cable Guy. Better to steal his line the the one
some other comedian says, "you can't fix stupid).

Agenda: We will be chatting as usual but you supply your own donuts and
coffee,a business meeting, instant gallery and of course a Demo.

The Demo will be on the interplay of 3D printing and woodturning. That
will be interesting. James showed the board a picture of a Longworth
Chuck made with a 3D printer. In a sense, 3D printing is the opposite
of what we do with a blank of wood mounted in the lathe. We are like
sculptors who turn away everything that is not the final object we had
in mind when we began. 3D printers, on the other hand, spray heated
plastic on the surface of the printer to achieve the final object
without all the waste around it. For example one can program the
printer to make a set of female and male threads to place in a box for a
screw-on lid. Kind of the opposite of CNC machining as well.

So tune in, have your coffee ready and enjoy. If you have questions
about getting connected to Zoom, reply to this with your question and
we'll see what we can do to help you get on board.

John
