Hello members, I was given a wet and gnarly piece of pear wood recently so after pondering exactly what was inside it I looped off some of the decayed wood and mounted it in the lathe in a cross grain orientation. Turned the outside mostly to shape then rigged up the Jamieson system and started boring. Ran into the decayed parts and had chips flying out of the side.
Got tired and I turn only when I am fresh so left it til the next day. It had cracked a little and more so warped a bit to one side, making it impossible to get in and really do a great job of finish hollowing and final shaping of the outside. So sealed the cracks, sanded, parted off and slathered on wipe on poly. Took it to the saloon where I go for coffee and sold it! Yes indeedy.
