Address is 1501 Wilson St in Onalaska. We will be loading through the roll away door near the back of the school near the recycling dumpsters. Setup begins at about 1200 with the demo commencing at 1300(1 pm) We will be just demonstrating various types of turning. No hands on for the students. For my demonstrators, be sure to check tools and have different types of wood. Duane is bringing his class lathes and we are going to be in the wood shop itself. There will be a short intro and safety briefing. I anticipate that small groups will be observing each of us as we turn. So they will have safety glasses at minimum and be no closer than 5 feet to the lathe,or, if the demonstrator wants a bigger cushion, they can back them up further. Plan on an hour and a half of turning tops. Clean up and help Duane load back up. Hopefully if their is enough interest we will schedule a hands on demo for the advanced students. I plan to mention the club and hopefully we can attract a few to the meetings. Thank you once again in everyone's assistance in this. I wanted to update everyone regarding the Luther HS demo. I would call it a good success, we had about 40 students in attendance. After some introductions and explanations and a safety briefing, we answered initial questions and then proceeded to the lathes and began turning. We had 6 lathes set up so the kids broke into small groups and were encouraged to visit each since we were turning different projects at each station. The kids seemed genuinely interested in what was going on and I received many questions during the time I was turning. They were impressed and fascinated with various parts and tools. After it was done we did speak with Mr. Larsen the instructor, he wants to do a hands on with hi advanced students in May. We would be turning Pens. Mr. Larsen gave us the wood to cut down to blanks (Thanks Jay for taking that on) and they are going to get the hardware in the interim. So we would Help them turn 2 pens each. We would provide the tools and lathes once again. I want to thank all that were able to be there and help. Bob Patros. Kristine Klough, Duane Hill, Jack Fitzpatrick, Kevin Vossler, and Jaye Johnson for volunteering your time energy and skills to make this demo successful and helping secure an additional demo. We were able to take a few pictures as well. They are on the Facebook page and given to Rich for the newsletter. I was also able to make contact with Tim Schneider at Three Brothers Bats in West Salem. He is interested in hosting us for a demo on Bat turning at his shop. Perhaps as our field trip in August. Tim has turn a few bats as part of his business in the beginning and would love to share. Hopefully we will be able to hold our April meeting and discuss face to face. In Service -- James A.
