John, a correction. My step daughter, Tiffany, did not feel
comfortable doing the video. Indstead, her husband, Jon, did the
filming and editing. He did a great job!!!

midsummer fest

Members, a while ago Norskedalen cancelled their Midsummer fest and
asked if the club could produce an instructional video about
woodturning to be used for their virtual Fest which was being planned.
Duane Hill and his step daughter stepped up and produced this very
nice instructional video showing the making of a Christmas ornament.
Norskedalen will use this in some way and CRW is prominently
mentioned.

SPECIAL THANKS to Duane and daughter for their work. Be sure to watch
this using the attached link. And please email Duane to offer your
thanks as well.

John and Julie, here is a youtube link for a demo I did on making
small Christmas Tree Ornaments. The entire video is about 9 minutes
long. We could maybe 1-2 minutes, but that would be it. Let me know
what you think and if you want any modifications. Also, I am working
on a similar video for turning a small bowl. That is being edited now,
but don't know when it will be ready. Hopefully, this fits the need.

Julie, let me introduce Duane Hill of our club and Duane, this is
Julie from Norskedalen.

Duane has kindly volunteered to shoot a video of woodturning for
Norskedalen. He will be doing the turning is his shop and will ask his
stepdaughter to film it most likely with a cell phone. The Google
address you gave me is in the email I have forwarded and you two can
converse regarding the content and other factors of such a production.
Duane is an outstanding teacher and I am certain he will develop a
nice project to showcase our club's purpose and passion.

Julie, thank you for inviting the Coulee Region Woodturners to
participate in the Virtual 2020 Norskedalen Midsummer Fest. And Duane,
thank you for volunteering yourself and your stepdaughter to assist in
this project.

Please let me know when and how the fest will take place so I can
notify club members about it. I assume it will be streamed or
something like that.

	John

A cell phone video should work and be uploaded to the above google
drive. Let me know if that doesn’t work, that is if someone does
have a video to upload.
Thanks for sending the email out. Maybe someone is up for it.

I asked for volunteers to help the day you sent your email, so far
no response.

If this becomes possible, what format for the video? Seems like a
cell phone video might be to large to send. So maybe a regular camera
and send you the SD card? I don't know much about video production.

 Hello, John,
Hope you are enjoying this beautiful sunny day! Days like this help
us get through the reality of the world.

With the crazy world as it is, Norskedalen is planning a virtual
Midsummer Fest. It’ll be different than before but that’s the way
of the world these days.

We are putting together a series of video offerings similar to what
we would have had live at the event. We are wondering if you or anyone
in your group has or would be willing to put together a short video on
woodturning. It would only have to be a couple of minutes long. It
would be great if someone would explain the history, how it’s done,
show some of the process, and then the finished piece. Do you think
anyone would in interested in doing that?

Please let me know what you think.

Thank you, and enjoy your week-end!

 Kindly,
 Julie

Sadly I agree with you, just too dangerous out there yet. Nobody in
their right mind would attend in current conditions;but the club does
enjoy our times at Norskedalen so if things had turned out differently
I could have gotten people to help with out much trouble.

Just an aside, I myself do a number of craft shows up here north of
La Crosse, and every one so far up to Labor day has cancelled. A three
day one scheduled for October is being seriously reconsidered by the
artists managing it. I think it is very likely there will be none this
season. John

 Hi, John,
We have made the difficult decision to cancel 2020 Midsummer Fest.
The safety and well being of everyone was at the heart of the
decision.

From all of us at Norskedalen, thank you all so much for your
willingness to be part of it.

 We’ll be back next year!

 Kindly,
 Julie

 Hi, John,
Thank you, that sounds great. We are still planning on going ahead as
scheduled. We will be paying close attention to the virus
recommendations to ensure everyone’s safety. We will inform you if
our plans change.

Thank you so much for agreeing to come. We’re hoping for a
beautiful sunny day.

 Hello Julie,

I heard from the CRW club president, he wants to go with it if
possible. So I was thinking I would try to round up members starting
about June 1st, assuming you folks decide to go ahead with it.

Please keep me posted as event planning goes forward.

 Hi, Norskedalen friends,

Hope the sunshine is bringing you some much needed joy and cheer.

Good news, we are planning on holding Midsummer Fest on June 20th
this year! It will most likely look a little different but we’re
optimistic that it’ll be held. With so many events being cancelled
and with the 350 acres of property at Norskedalen, Midsummer Fest
would be a well deserved and fun family outing while maintaining our
social distancing.

We are contacting you, our demonstrators, to see what your interest
is. Will you be a demonstrator this year? We can work with you to
determine where and how your table and space will look to keep
everyone safe. Please let us know your thoughts, and if you’ll
demonstrate your craft.

Hope we’ll see you all there!

 Thank you,

Julie Schroeder - Board Member (608-797-5554)
Katrina Bjornstad - Heritage Program Coordinator (608-452-3424)
