Members, thanks for looking. I was given a pile of freshly cut walnut branches a while ago, and had two choices: let them dry and probably never use them; or make stuff. You all know me well enough that I am sort of addicted to making stuff while awaiting the demise of the virus so...
Long story short, one of the last pieces of the walnut branches had a crotch with three limbs growing out of it. So I cut the limbs off and left the part where they branches off. Mounted them on a screw chuck and turned a thin stemmed goblet. Left the stem fairly thick because of the walnut wood pith which would greatly weaken a thinner stem as it is prone to cracking. I hollowed the goblet part almost to the cambium, that can be seen showing through on the inside. I left the screw chuck hole so it would help dry the base as it is a good sized chunk of wet wood I did not want to have split during drying. Several coats of poly and a buff with a shop made grit, mineral oil and beeswax mixture and finished!
Thanks for reading, let?s get some comments going.
John
