  For the last week, I've been up in Minnesota, north of the Twin 
Cities, helping out my buddy in his drum making operation. He just 
bought a Vega 1553 15" x 52" wood lathe which I'm playing around with. 
It has a 220v VFD running a 1 hp 3 phase motor, which is kind of nice. 
I've only had a chance to turn small things with it, and will be heading 
home tomorrow. But I'll return in June for a couple weeks and will try 
out some bigger chunks of wood. I would describe it as a poor man's 
Powermatic, not as well made or as solid.  But they sold for about half 
the price of the mustard monster.
