Message-ID: We are having a meeting tomorrow with Brent English and will need a setup crew to night at 6:30. A few people make a big difference. Tomorrow we have Brent English coming in to talk about lathe maintenance. Brent is one of the country?s leading experts on the function of the lathe. He will also bring lathe rests for sale. These are the ones recommended by Mark Palma who demonstrated in February. Brent also sells the Rubust Lathe. Bring your check book. Duane Hill has graciously allowed us to use his lathes; likewise A Line has again welcomed us. ?It will last from 8AM until Noon, and we expect to have to have the lathes running from about 8:30 until 11:30, with set up, safety training and organizing taking place from 8 to 8:30.? We need members to volunteer both to turn and instruct the children as well as assist with the operation of the event.? Members can turn with a child in about 45 minute blocks then move on to the next one.? Bring some wood, materials and tools for projects that can be completed in that time frame or less.? Good projects are tops, stick pens, Slimline or similar pens, mushrooms and nearly anything that can help a young person learn to handle tools and get the feel of making a nice cut, most likely spindle orientation projects.? The children will range in age from about 9 years old through high school.? We will want to set a good example with safety so bring along a face shield for yourself and one for your student to wear as well.? If all goes well, we can get every child a turn on a lathe, and some kids may even get a second turn.? If time permits we may even be able to give a parent or two hands-on with a tool and some wood.? We will be using both Duane's and club lathes and Duane's grinder will be available for sharpening.? Help moving club machines back and forth will be appreciated too. Last year Jack Fitzpatrick was a huge hit with his stick pens. The children and parents really appreciate what we did; and we had a write-up in the February 2018 American Woodturner, page 11. Please contact me with any questions you have and to sign up. The more volunteers the better.? My phone is 608-248-2782.? Thanks in advance, John Griffiths
