Great place to see and learn.
Classes are a bit pricey but well worth the money.
Someone asked about spoons. Look at this catalog.

Welcome Woodcarvers to Vesterheim
Woodcarvers Jögge Sundqvist from Sweden and Alexander Yerks from upstate New York arrive at Vesterheim next week! Alex will teach two sessions on how to carve kuksas, Scandinavian drinking cups. Jögge will teach two classes—how to make shrinkboxes and how to carve spoons. He'll also give a public presentation, What Is in a Spoon? on March 2 at 7:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Come and welcome Jögge and Alex to Vesterheim!

Congratulations to Vesterheim volunteer Lee Grippen, who recently found out he's receiving the St. Olaf Medal!
Volunteer Appreciation
On February 14 we celebrated our fantastic volunteers at a Volunteer Appreciation event. Records show that 343 volunteers served over 2000 hours in the past year. The value they bring to Vesterheim is impossible to calculate and we are so grateful for their support. Thank you, Vesterheim volunteers! Find more photos here.

NRK Article Features Vesterheim Artifacts from Immigrants
Norwegians immigrated to the United States because of the harsh agricultural conditions in their country and economic and social factors that all combined to make them the second largest group to immigrate from Europe during the period of 1880 to 1893. Their story illustrates some of the difficulties that immigrants from everywhere face. Norwegian journalists Matunda Bigirimana and Karen Brodshaug Sveen were in Decorah last November to interview a few people about the objects their families brought when they emigrated from Norway to America. The project is now here at NRK as an article. The artifacts that Anna Linnell and Harley Refsal show and talk about are in Vesterheim's collection. Marvin Slind provided an English translation available here. NRK granted Marv permission to translate their article and include the link to their page.
