Robert D Sanders
(November 16, 1934 - January 2, 2017) Robert “Bob” D. Sanders, 82 of Tomah passed away on Monday, January 2, 2017 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, LaCrosse. He was born on November 16, 1934 to Claude D. and Exer L. (Lane) Sanders in Van Buren, Arkansas. He grew up with a family of 5 step-brothers and 4 step-sisters. He worked as an over the road semi truck driver, driving coast to coast for over 30 years. After his retirement, Bob and Becky started the Olde World Almond Company, LLC. They traveled for 7 years to numerous fairs and community events and were known as the “The Nut People.” Robert had a curious mind, finding interest in many things and enjoyed learning about how things worked; making jewelry, stained glass, silversmithing and wood turning were some things that he enjoyed doing. He was also known as BBQ Bob, making many rib dinners for family and friends. He enjoyed reading, and Tom Clancy was his favorite author; he could read a book from start to finish in one sitting. Bob was a member of the Coulee Region Wood Turners Club of LaCrosse, he was always proud of the brotherhood and fellowship that he shared at their meetings. Bob will be remembered as being soft spoken and soft hearted, he showed kindness to everyone. He is survived by his loving companion of 26 years Becky Gragg, a step-daughter, Teresa (Dwight) Kuehl of Tomah, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017, 4:00 P.M. at Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E. Monowau Street, Tomah. Pastor Phillip Enderle will officiate. Burial will be in LaGrange Cemetery at a later date. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday from 2:00 P.M. until the time of the service.
