Hi James, I am willing to offer my two cents worth. My experience over the
years has shown me that polyurethane varnish brushed on is a very excellent
choice for table tops. The polyvar I have returned to time and again is Zar
Ultra Interior Oil Based Fast Drying Polyurethane. I think it is still
available at Menards, or Home Depot. I prefer to use the semigloss sheen.
The marine varnish is designed for outdoor use and not preferable for table
tops indoors. Hope that helps. If you have other questions, feel free to
