Our plan is to apply for a 5013c designation for CRW....this may open some doors for potential donors or to Coop. I have not heard that WTC will be bringing the non-credit adult night school program back. Bob R

Some of the High Schools used to open up their shops a few years ago also. A few of the problems that I know came up were, a qualified Instructor, Which usually had to be someone with a Collage degree in an Industrial Arts related Field or the Instructor at the School that actually teaches it and they do not pay very well at all.. One of the biggest problems was also liability Insurance to cover anyone who had their finger cut off, This was usually sponsored by WTC, but also the facility was a high school setting and both are going to be held liable. You can sign a waiver form, have the instructor teach you the safety parts of a machine or tool and tell you not to put your fingers or your tongue somewhere, but it the end, the medical bills, loss of a limb/finger etc etc,, a lump sum still may be paid out to the person, plus Insurance rates possibly going up, in which the tax payer who pays for the school, pays for Insurance also.
In the end it comes down to who wants to be liable,
WTC should be using State and even National funds to help out, but these funds are usually to be used to facilitate higher Education/job skills for usually people with no job skills to further bring the Economy up in hiring skilled workers.
I have talked with a few people that have lived or are living in other “retirement” areas of their state and most areas do have a building set aside for these types of actives, like painting, clay work, woodworking and even glass blowing. Just about all of the people also stated that a few people donated the money to help get this started and it does cost quite a bit to even start , between the land, where to put it, upkeep, electricity, water, grounds and building maintenance, to staff, supplies, equiptment and of course some type of Insurance.
The Pump House in Lacrosse which I think is partly owned by the City and the rest they need to fund themselves, but it was never set up do hold a woodworking area. I think at one point they did have a couple of clay turning wheels there.
Maybe some of the bigger family owned Companies around the area would be interested, like Kwik Trip, Reinharts or even Organic Valley would be a perfect fit for a backbone to start this and maybe this is something to talk with other groups in the area to have a few meeting to talk about some ideas and how it can benefit the area and the people. Maybe put a plan together to bring to the table to some of these Companies to see if they would like to at least look into it a little more, the worse thing they can say is no.

Not aware of any. It's a thought I've had many times. I believe there is physical space available in Artisan's Gallery, I believe is the name. Back building of the old LaCrosse Footware complex. There are several independent artisans in those spaces, with more space available for rent, that could possibly offer possibilities. Bob R

General question. Does anyone know if there is a woodworking "coop" in the area? A place where people can share space and tools ?
Is there any place for flat work woodworking course? There use to be a course at WWTC ,but they stopped a number of years ago.

I want to thank all of you who submitted an order for Craft Supplies. When I e-mailed the club after the last meeting, we had an order total of about $1500. We now have an order of about $3600. I am sending the order to Craft Supplies today. I hope to have the discounted prices by Monday and your totals shortly thereafter. Thanks again.
