Good idea John to get the word out in the community and showcase our
hobby/art. In my past experiences with turning at nursing homes/assisted
care centers, the turnout of residents has been few in number. This
opportunity may be different, however. If Bethany-St Joes is part of a large
group, maybe they can ferry interested residents from their other facilities
to the July venue.
With regards to A Line, that firm does benefit to some extent from
membership and others purchasing woodturning and woodworking merchandise
from them. In my view, it's a 2 way street. If A Line is reluctant to host a
summer meeting, maybe we could encourage them to sponsor a meeting on site
during the early fall or late spring of 2016.

Members, we have had a series of changes about the content and location of
the July meeting. We have ruled out using our regular meeting place because
we will have to share the restrooms that day with an outside group. A-Line
is closed on Saturdays during the summer so we do not want to inconvenience
them in any way. They are way too important a resource for us to make
demands and put them in a bind.
We have been invited to demonstrate at Bethany-St. Joseph's on that day so
we have made plans to be there from 8:30 to 11:30 AM on Saturday July 18.
they are at 2501 Shelby Road, La Crosse. We will have our two club lathes,
and we hope a third one to turn with. We invite members to show up, bring
some wood and tools to make simple projects and go for it. We want to take
turns so many members will get a chance to turn. We need to go pretty easy
on the sanding, we do not want to fill the inside air with dust.
We have been asked to bring some completed pieces for display as well.
This is not intended as a sales event so just bring your self, some work to
show off and of course what you would like to take a turn making on the
lathe. And just being there to socialize with the residents is very
valuable.
I will not be home much of the time from tomorrow until the 17th. So send me
an email to let me know if you can make it or for questions, I'll have
access to it while I am out of town, and will address things as needed.
John
