Daniel,
If your needs are to plane lengths of wood less than about 1 1/2" thick
to perfect squareness, I have used a router mounted in a table with a
straight bit. Clamp a fence to the table and feed the work between the
fence and bit, into the bit's rotation.
As long as the router is mounted perfectly square in the table, you
end up with perfectly square pieces. Get the pieces close to size with a
tablesaw, then shave a bit more off with the router table.
You can use just the tablesaw if there is very little slop between the
blade and the saw's table, using a fine tooth blade.
