Members, since I won the Nick Cook spurtle in the drawing  at the recent 
club meeting, I poked around the internet and found this - turning a 
spurtle with a bow lathe.  Note how the guy sits on the ground and holds 
the tool with his right hand and right foot while working the bow with 
his left hand.  That is a bit more primitive then using a Robust 
American Beauty lathe, for example! John
