Hello everyone,

I want to thank all of generous members who took the time to respond, everyone with good, thoughtful comments/recommendations. Even some who offered to let me try their machines out. After reading everyone's comments, reading online, going to retail outlets, I have purchased one. I went a Poulan electric, 16 in, 11 plus amp from Farm & Fleet and biodegradable bar chain oil from Breyer's in LaCrescent. Breyer's has new Stihl's and also used saws that have been repaired and for sale. They have an excellent repair shop with a good reputation.

If and when I graduate to a gas model, will probably chose a Stihl or Husqy, possible Echo. I like that the Stihl is through a local dealer, with a high quality repair shop. The Husqy is also available locally . My preference is usually to support local, family owned businesses when possible.

Went with electric as can be used inside shop/garage and outside, weather permitting and don't have to be concerned about old gas, etc. I can also purchase a 14" bar/chain if desired to fit the machine. Now need to get some additional safety equipment, big thing is probably chaps. Will use my turning face shield, debating on a dedicated chain saw face and head shield. Will definitely use leather work boots when sawing.

I know there are lots of internet forums out there, and I believe having conversation through CRW talk is another way to use our wonderful collective resource.
I believe I have responded individually to all of you generous men and Valiree (especially really appreciate your safety advice).

Take care and thanks again, everyone.

Hi everyone,

I'm interested in purchasing a chainsaw. I know essentially nothing about them. Looking for a general purpose machine for around the home use. Not sure if way to go is gas or electric.

Also, don't know if 14" or 16" is way to go. And reliable brand for home use.

Please let me know any recommendations you may have. . Call or send via CR talk is fine.

Thanks a heap
