[Crw-talk] Vacuum chucking questions

Surplus Center pumps are some times ok. Their inventory changes alot. Right now, they don't have much. Possibly one option (1/4 hp model but there's no cord, etc.), but for the $200 range, I'd go with the one from Stubby Lathe USA. Sometimes Surplus has them in the $50-80 range but watch these, they're fairly beaten up and are often the 0522 model which is the 220 Volt model. The ones in the catalogs are the 0523 model and 110V.

Also a small nitpick, Craft Supplies is the only place that offers them with a switch on the cord itself. Packards do not have a switch so they'll have to be plugged/unplugged for on/off or you'll have to add a switch. Craft Supplies are well thought out the way they have them set up.

I purchased my Gast pump from the Surplus Center in Nebraska a few years
back and I do not remember what I paid but it was a lot less then $400
dollars.
I would give the Surplus Center a call and ask them if they have the pump.

My opinions are below in your questions.

see them on eBay for about $45 or so. Used pumps can be as good but they are a gamble. What were the pumps used for prior and how well were they cleaned after use? There are many variables to consider. They're not bad but not always good either.

technicians to draw the air out of air conditioning systems
satisfactory? Depending on the size, possibly. Like the used pumps there are a lot of variables.

>When it comes to pumps, Gast's model 0523 is the pump that is in the catalogs for $440. It's the best of the best. There are parts available if the user does have problems. If you do a search on ebay for Gast 0523 Pump you'll find some options, again a lot of variables. IF you order one, expect shipping in the $30 to $40 range alone. There is another pump available that has been getting some good reviews and is half the price and is a "New" pump so there are no questionable variables about useage. Stubby Lathe USA carries it as well as some adaptors (the adaptors are made of delrin and will need to be turned down smaller to fit our lathes). Here's a link to them. http://stubbylatheusa.com/cgi-bin/onlinestore.py
