[Crw-talk] Vacuum chucking questions

My opinions are below in your questions.

How satisfactory are the vacuum devices that run off an air compressor?  I'm told they are very loud.  Is a vacuum pump a better direction to
go?  They are loud and I just don't feel like their in the same league as a vacuum pump.

How reliable are used vacuum pumps?  I see them on eBay for about $45 or so.  Used pumps can be as good but they are a gamble.  What were the pumps used for prior and how well were they cleaned after use?  There are many variables to consider.  They're not bad but not always good either.

Are the pumps used by HVAC technicians to draw the air out of air conditioning systems satisfactory?  Depending on the size, possibly.  Like the used pumps there are a lot of variables.

When it comes to pumps, Gast's model 0523 is the pump that is in the catalogs for $440.  It's the best of the best.  There are parts available if the user does have problems.  If you do a search on ebay for Gast 0523 Pump you'll find some options, again a lot of variables.  IF you order one, expect shipping in the $30 to $40 range alone.  There is another pump available that has been getting some good reviews and is half the price and is a "New" pump so there are no questionable variables about useage.  Stubby Lathe USA carries it as well as some adaptors (the adaptors are made of delrin and will need to be turned down smaller to fit our lathes).  Here's a link to them.  http://stubbylatheusa.com/cgi-bin/onlinestore.py

Also there are many articles on Vacuums around.  Some are overly complicated, in my opinion.  It doesn't need to be.  Keep it simple.

This is just my 2 cents on the subject.

Greg

Hello all, I have some questions:

How reliable are used vacuum pumps?  I see them on eBay for about $45 or so.

Are the pumps used by HVAC technicians to draw the air out of air conditioning systems satisfactory?
