Sculptural Objects and Functional Art (SOFA) Fair
Chicago 2011
Artist: Alan Mailland
Several of the AAW staff recently traveled to Chicago for a weekend filled with craft, design, and familiar faces! The Sculptural Objects and Functional Art (SOFA) Fair provides a great opportunity for individuals, galleries, and craft guilds to meet and share what is new and exciting in the world of fine craft.
AAW hosted a Special Exhibition,
The World Turns: AAW @ 25, which featured works by 25 prominent artists who all have been influenced and supported through their connection to the AAW. The show was curated by Kevin Wallace of the Beatrice Wood Center for Art. The World Turns: AAW @ 25 is on display until December 30, 2011, at the Gallery of Wood Art in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
A few photos from the show can be found at AAWoodturners.blogspot.com

AAW members will be able to subscribe at no cost to a bi-monthly e-newsletter that will feature how-to projects, instructional videos, and tips to get you started! There will also be a Q&A section that will feature questions submitted by e-newsletter subscribers.

EOG Put to Great Use
The North Carolina Arboretum was recently awarded an Educational Opportunity Grant (EOG), that was used to help fund a demonstration area and greenhouse exhibition, Into the Wood. The exhibition was mounted in conjunction with the Arboretum's summer exhibition, The Fine Art of Wood: An International Invitational Exhibition of Woodturning, and the micro-cellular studies, Botanical Chords, of plants and trees by artist Dr. Terry Ashley.
