Providence Show winner of the 
Marc Harrison Award for Marketing Excellence: 

Above: Jill Caprio-Scalera & Peter Scalera - CT artists & husband & wife team - were the winners of the Marc Harrison Award for Marketing Excellence at the Providence Show. 

Peter was inspired at an early age by George Nakashima & Frank Lloyd Wright and started designing and making furniture in his early teens. Jill, who signs her work "Jage" which was a childhood nickname & term of endearment has been creating mix media wall art for 10 years. 

>From Peter Scalera: "After 40+ years in business, it is still gratifying to be recognized by your peers. Such was the case at this year's Providence Show. After planning our booth for a couple of months, choosing the right furniture pieces and artwork to maximize the space and changing it multiple times on paper with the last change happening as we were setting up, Jill and I thought that we had a great display of our work. Imagine our excitement when they announced our names as the winners of the "Best in Show for Marketing" award; we felt like kids on Christmas. What an honor, especially since all the booths were impressive!".

Coffee cup salute!

I love to start my day with a cup of hot black coffee in a handmade mug! (and watch the birds) So here's to all the talented artists in America that design & handcraft coffee (or tea) mugs! Join me each month as I feature artists & mugs!

A fun line-up of mugs above from Wisconsin artist & Milwaukee Show exhibitor Jessie Schroeder Voss. Rachel Ray is a big fan of Jessie's work!

Fabulous collaboration between two talented NC artists - Ed & Kate Coleman. Love this statement on their website as much as their mugs: "We believe that life is more beautiful when surrounded by things made by hand".

December can be a month of lists - plant a live evergreen - check - put colored lights on it with a timer - check - make a wreath for the front door with the discarded boughs from the local tree farm - check - put a red poinsettia in the guestroom - check - get all the ingredients for baking cookies & pies, making rum balls, etc.  - check - seed & suet for the birds - check - and the list goes on and on!

The common denominators of the list are "buy/get local, make it myself, buy handmade in America, reuse, recycle, replant, rejoice! 

Wishing all of you a wonderful holiday season filled with family, friends, kindness, giving and gratitude!
