The Coulee Region Woodcarvers need a few more canes turned so they can
carve the eagle heads for them. These are for disabled soldiers. Attached is a diagram of what they need.
The top of the turned section has a tenon for the head and a shoulder.
The diagram lists that shoulder being 1" to 1 1/3". They would like
that shoulder to be closer to 1 1/2" The 1 3/4" measurement is being
an issue for their carved heads. The shaft has a simple taper down to
it's dimensions on the end. A simple taper is best, no flutes or heavy
detail since they customize the shaft with the soldier's name and
pictures of their earned medals and it can get in their way. Cherry and Maple would be good
options for the shaft. Please no Ash or Oak since the open grain
causes them issues with their pyrographing and carving. As it says on
the diagram the length should be approx. 36" long.
If you're able to turn a few of these please let me know. There are a
couple of requests for soldiers that have already returned.
Your assistance is appreciated.
Take Care,
Greg Haugen
